Middletown VFW Post
1170 and its Ladies Auxiliary, in cooperation with
the Kentucky Air National Guard launched a troop
support program...dubbed "Operation Goodie Box."
The program has been
in existence for over two years. We have provided
items of comfort for troops deployed and
stationed around the globe. Our first delivery in
2000, provided
holiday support for troops stationed in Korea. Subsequent
shipments have been delivered to troops in Bosnia
and Afghanistan. However, with the advent of hostilities
in Iraq, the program has focused on supporting our
troops deployed in sites throughout Southwest
Asia.
Middletown VFW is proud
to be the official sponsor of the Kentucky Air Guard
in the nationwide "Adopt-a-Unit" program.
In fact, the post was recently recognized by the
Commander of the 123rd Airlift Wing, Col. Mike Harden,
for our efforts in organizing a Welcome Home Troops
Pig Roast. "To be welcomed home and adopted
by the men and women who have previously done their
duty to defend their country is quite an honor," said
Col. Harden of the event.
Being away from home
and loved ones is never easy. However, the distance
is magnified during holidays.
The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary
sent over 100 Holiday Goodie Boxes to the troops
on November 28, 2003. We need your help and support
as we now look towards additional shipments !!
With the continued cooperation
of United Parcel Service, St. Mary's Center, St Margaret
Mary's School, St. Patrick's School and YOU, the
troops deployed from the Kentucky region will know
we love and support them.
We need donations of
items and/or funds to purchase materials for the
boxes. We could also use help assembling the boxes
and their contents. A list of suggested items can
